North Suburban Medical Center Nurse Named Colorado Health Care Star

American Sentinel University and the Colorado Hospital Association (CHA) named Gaby McCormick, RN, BSN, VP of Quality, Risk and Infection Control at North Suburban Medical Center in Thornton, as a Colorado Health Care Stars Award winner. This award recognizes McCormick as an exceptional health care professional.

Colorado Health Care Stars is a statewide health care professional award recognition program sponsored by American Sentinel University and CHA. The program was launched in February 2015 to acknowledge clinical professionals in Colorado who exceed expectations in the delivery of health care.

McCormick takes a collaborative approach to her role as Vice President of Quality to help North Suburban Medical Center achieve quality recognition for the hospital, including its sixth consecutive “A” rating from The Leapfrog Group and the recent sepsis certification from The Joint Commission making North Suburban the only hospital in Colorado to receive this distinction.

She was instrumental in ensuring the hospital received recertification of its Primary Stroke Center designation from The Joint Commission and plays a vital role ensuring that North Suburban prioritizes patient safety and the patient experience.

Each month CHA draws from the pool of nominees and chooses an individual that will be featured the following month on the CHA Career Center website, receive a $100 Visa gift card courtesy of American Sentinel University and be entered into a drawing at the end of the year for a monetary scholarship toward an accredited health care certificate or degree at American Sentinel University.

In June 2016, the Higher Education Commission Board of Trustees voted to grant American Sentinel University the status of candidate for accreditation. Institutions seeking accreditation by HLC are required to complete a period of candidacy before being evaluated for full accreditation.
