Packing and moving is a strenuous task. Packers and movers have been making it easy for us through their services. But some people would prefer to do the packing on their own rather than leaving it to the moving companies. When it comes to packing on our own, do we have the expertise to pack things safely? Some packing tips might help us in doing it by ourselves.

Five tips for packing essential items safely:

• Each box should have a layer of padding. Bubble wrap is a recommended choice but, you can also use newspaper, or household items, such as a blanket, towels, or sheets.

• Refrain from filling your boxes up to the top. It reduces the heaviness of the boxes. Thus, it eliminates the chances of dropping the boxes during transit.

• If you have packed a box with glassware, before you seal it shut, gently shake the box back and forth. You should not hear any clicking of the glasses or shifting of the content inside.

• Always place the heaviest items at the bottom of the box while placing lighter items at the top. Make sure to label your boxes as fragile in bold red marker, so movers know to be extra careful with your box.

• Tape boxes well. Each box should be taped securely at the bottom before proceeding with placing items inside. Once done, close the box and tape the top securely as well.
