Frank Gamboa owns Old Time Barber Shop. He started as a barber 26 years ago, counting on the city’s burgeoning population to keep him — and his two barber chairs — busy.  He is assisted by Sam, who helps keep the flow with great men’s haircuts and shaves.

Word got out about the quality of the cuts and the shop’s beard expertise, and the business started booming. Frank is adding chairs and rewriting the “rules” of the way shops run. Many barbershops only accept cash, for instance, or don’t take appointments, working solely off walk-ins.  Frank has hired web designer Paul Brown to help create a seamless experience for clients.

Frank said he started seeing men pop in for a cut only to have a two- to three-hour wait. And in a world where people carry cards, not cash, why not make things more modern with online appointments?

Frank started taking online appointments and credit card payments. Old Time Barbershop is open five days a week in San Antonio and is planning to increase those hours.

Frank stated that his brother Dante Gamboa, who also owns a barbershop in San Antonio, was an inspiration to his barbershop.  Dante operates 5th Ave Barbershop off 1604 and Redland Road.
