Owner of Fitness 1440, a 2021 ThreeBestRated® award-winning Gym in Nashville shares his story

We all have certain plans on how to spend our lives after retirement. While some would like to travel the world, some would prefer living somewhere quiet and comfortable with their family. 

But there are a few people who work on starting their own business. Nelson Boren is one of them. Nelson is the owner of Fitness 1440, a 2021 ThreeBestRated® award-winning Gym in Nashville, TN.

So, how did he turn a closed-down fitness center into an award-winning gym? Let’s hear the story from him.

The beginning:

“I actually retired after 37 years at a major company and was in a position I did not need to work in if I managed my money,” Nelson says. But soon, he began wondering what he had accomplished.

“I found myself wondering what I had accomplished in life. My children suffered because I had worked so much. I felt I neglected them in my duties as a father,” he explains.

He wanted to give back to the community and his children in some way. That is when he came to know about an old fitness center that had closed. “I had no aspiration other than having been in the gym at work almost six days a week for years to get into the fitness industry,” he says.

He decided to take a look at the fitness center and immediately fell in love with it. “It was love at first sight, and a plan started forming that this could be a legacy for my family,” he explains.

“After discussing with my family, we decided to invest my life savings and more to reopen the Facility. Now I get to see the difference in people’s lives every day. It has been tough at times but seeing a lady or man that could barely walk turn their lives around by just treating them with respect and encouragement,” he says proudly.

Nelson plans to continue to grow and hopefully expand to more locations this year. With all safety regulations, of course. They have sanitation points at every workstation and wipe down the machines continually.

They also give free personal training to all new members to get them started for a limited time free group classes. “I know this is contradictory to the industry focus, but people need people in a positive environment not just looking at a screen, but interaction is very positive, mentally as well as physically,” he explains.
