This week has seen Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans kick off the ‘Ford of Britain Centenary Tour of Britain’ in London. On Wednesday 17th August he arrived at Tower Bridge in a 1974 Ford Escort Mexico to meet a convoy of Ford cars that range across their entire 100 years of manufacture in the UK. Included in this convoy were a vintage 1911Model T, a classic 1966 Ford Anglia and the new 2011 Ford Focus Estate which has been specially designed to celebrate Ford’s centenary.
The convoy is now leaving London to visit twenty locations around the UK including Glasgow and Cornwall with an epic finale planned at the Goodwood Revival festival in Chichester, West Sussex. On 16th-18th September there will be a parade of 100 of their greatest vehicles including a Ford GT40 Prototype and a Ford Model T Fire Engine; spectators will travel back in time to see Ford develop through 100 years of manufacture and development.
Ford are one of the world’s most diverse car manufacturers; they have reached out to develop vehicles in areas such as racing, production cars, commercial and military. A selection from all of these areas will be available to view in the parade at the Goodwood Revival festival.
Not only are Ford looking to their past in celebrating 100 successful years. They are also looking to improving cars in the future with the development of five pure electric and hybrid-electric cars to go on sale in 2013. This includes an electric Transit van and fully electric Ford Mondeo which should be hitting showrooms next year.
