CBD is also known as cannabidiol. For CBD products to remain in compliance with most state laws the CBD product must have miniscule or zero levels of THC. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the best-known compound in marijuana, is the substance that produces the marijuana high. But CBD does not produce any psychoactive effect. Pure CBD oil can be extracted from both cannabis and hemp. Much of the marijuana that has been sold on the illegal black market for decades has tended to have increased levels of THC and diminished levels of CBD since street buyers are interested in the strongest pot in order to get the most bang for the bucks. But CBD is an entirely different niche. People buy it in the hopes of seeing some of the benefits it is touted for and not for any type of psychoactive effect. Over the past year there has been an abundance of new CBD products launched not just for humans but for pets too. Consumers seeking the best CBD oil are now faced with a wide array of product choices.

Cannabidiol has become an interesting high-growth niche market relating to the cannabis and hemp markets. There has been a substantial amount of media attention about CBD oil and its potential benefits and although research on the substance is in its’ early stages, consumers have made the substance a high-demand product.

Legal cannabis sales is Colorado have exceeded $100 million per month for the past 12 consecutive months. This past May, sales were over $127 million. These sales figures include edibles, concentrates and flower buds. The record for Colorado monthly sales was hit in March of 2017 with $131.7 millions in total sales. That puts total Colorado pot sales at $1.4 billion for the past 12 months with $223 million in taxes and fees going to the state of Colorado. Industry observers indicate that two-thirds of these monthly sales figures represent sales of recreational marijuana with the balance represents medical marijuana sales. In Colorado, sales figures for the first 5 months of 2017 through the end of May were up approximately 27 per cent over 2016. But as the pot industry matures in Colorado, these robust growth figures are expected to moderate according to industry insiders.

Other states including California and Nevada have recently initiated or are about to initiate recreational pot sales. Sales of recreational marijuana began in Nevada on July 1 2017. In Nevada demand is very strong and many dispensaries have run out of product in this early period. A large part of the pot shortage problem in Nevada at the retail level is due to a Nevada regulation that allows a small number of alcohol distributors to ship the cannabis from the grower to the retailer. Pot retailers in Nevada are seeking emergency regulatory help to fix the supple bottleneck. In the meantime, it seems every sub-niche is the cannabis space is experiencing notable growth.
