Growth Through Learning: The future of Investing & Servicing Student Loans in a Rapidly Evolving Industry

Leaders in the education finance industry gathered in late May for the 9th annual Education Finance and Loan Symposium. Purefy CEO, Jack Zoeller, was a featured speaker sharing his unique perspective on two panels with other experts in the student loan “fintech” space.
When asked how market preferences were changing, Jack Zoeller said, “I’ll tell you what doesn’t appeal to this new generation of borrowers: anything traditional. Like calling an 800 number, brick and mortar locations, a corporate look. So it [both process and product] has to be online, smooth, intuitive, and get good reviews from the peers of the younger generation you are targeting.”
The conference spanned two days with panels covering everything from loan servicing trends to refinancing opportunities, with a focus on the future. The panelists discussed trends like smarter underwriting for borrowers with lower credit scores or higher debt ratios; a potential increase in the volume of parent loans: and the continuing need for education on how to save through student loan refinancing and the tools available to prospective borrowers. The underlying theme was the importance of technology as it is critical to serve the needs the new generation of customers.

About Jack:
Jack began his career on Wall Street where he was an innovator and leader at E.F. Hutton. He has launched 5 new companies, served on 23 boards of directors and is a Visiting Professor at George Washington University. In 2010 he was appointed to the Defense Business Board, a volunteer advisory board at the Pentagon. Jack also served in the U.S. Army as a Ranger and company commander in the 82nd Airborne Division. He earned degrees from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Harvard University and Oxford University where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar.
