Rocky Mount Event Center Announces New General Manager

North Carolina’s premier indoor sports and event venue, Rocky Mount Event Center managed by The Sports Facilities Management, announces the hiring of new General Manager, Arthur (Art) Thomason.

Thomason brings to Rocky Mount more than 25 years of experience in the entertainment, event services, and sports management industry. Most recently, Thomason served as the Event Service Manager for Columbus Civic Center and Ice Rink. In this leadership role, he provided daily facility management, events operations team oversight, and led corporate culture through team building, training and development.

“Art is an extremely knowledgeable, experienced, and energetic leader, who we are confident will build upon the strong team at the Rocky Mount Event Center,” SFM CEO Jason Clement said in a statement. “Art has a track record of collaboration and will partner well with city leadership to provide first-class service to the community.”

In 2017 Thomason led his team through a period of natural disaster relief; the Columbus Civic Center served as a critical evacuation site as the facility opened its doors to more than 600 evacuees from South Georgia due to Hurricane Irma. Additionally, Thomason is currently affiliated with several organizations such as the International Association for Venue Managers, Paint the Town Pink Committee for Cancer Awareness, Mayor’s Commission on Unity, Diversity, and Prosperity, and the Tri-City Latino Festival Committee.

Thomason was chosen by SFM after an extensive, nation-wide selection process. The operations team and facility staff are excited to bring Thomason on board. “Hiring the right person for the General Manager role at Rocky Mount Event Center has been a top priority,” says SFM COO, Dave Pritchett. “Thomason’s industry experience and leadership capability make him the right candidate to fill this role and continue making this state of the art facility a premiere destination on the east coast.”
