New York, NY (PRUnderground) August 23rd, 2023

Russian Icon Collection, a project dedicated to the preservation and popularization of traditional icon painting, has published a new presentation of the catalog titled “Russian Icons from the Mid-17th to the Early 20th Centuries: The Collection of Oleg Kushnirskiy.” The interactive presentation contains the latest information on the book and the people behind its creation, which will be useful to media outlets and potential partners.

The presentation features an outline of the collection’s history. The icon collection that became the focus of the catalog was assembled by the reputable collector and icon expert Oleg Kushnirskiy. He started the collection of Russian religious works of art after moving to the US from the former USSR in the early 1990s.

The Russian icon catalog was released with the support of Fine Art Shippers, a New York-based art logistics company. It was officially launched at the Museum of Russian Icons in Moscow. The catalog features 46 icons from the middle of the 17th to the early 20th centuries. The collection mainly consists of hand-painted icons with border scenes, dedicated to the iconography of the Resurrection – the Harrowing of Hades. Many of the pieces presented in the collection were painted in the Vladimir region where the major Russian icon painting centers were historically located. The catalog aims to highlight the less researched pages of the Russian icon painting tradition.

The presentation mentions the experts who either worked on the catalog or shared their valuable opinion on the project. This includes a report provided by Irina Shalina, P.hD., an expert on cultural values of the Russian Ministry of Culture and leading researcher at the State Russian Museum, as well as reviews from important figures in the fields of art history and culture, members of educational institutions, and public figures.

The Oleg Kushnirskiy collection presentation highlights the contributions of researchers who authored academic articles that are part of the book: Anna Ivannikova, an expert of the Russian Ministry of Culture and curator of the latest icon painting collection at the State Hermitage Museum; Wendy Salmond, Ph.D., professor at Chapman University (California) and Chief Editor of the Journal of Icon Studies; Alek D. Epstein, Ph.D., Israeli sociologist, cultural scientist, and the Director of the Historical and Cultural Association “Discovery Routes.”

The presentation also includes information about the latest collaborative projects between Russian Icon Collection and various educational and cultural institutions all across Russia and illustrates the media coverage received by the catalog after its release.

Russian Icon Collection states that it is open to new initiatives, inviting potential collaborators to submit their ideas at info@russianicon.com. The interactive presentation can be viewed and downloaded by clicking on the link: Presentation of the Oleg Kushnirskiy Icon Collection.
