Sacramento to be Named Home for Record Breaking Largest Calarita Cocktail

From Cal Expo, home of the California State Fair in Sacramento, Nick Nicora announced he will attempt to break the Guinness world record for largest cocktail.

Nick Nicora, world record holder for making the World’s Largest Commercially Available Hamburger last year at the Alameda County Fair has set a new goal this year to break another Guiness World Record. On July 13, 2012, Nicora, in partnership with Hussong’s Cantina, intends to shatter the world record for the largest cocktail, and he plans to serve thousands of onlookers a 10,500 gallon Calarita, or California Margarita.
The Guinness Book of World Records recognizes the Margarita that was created by Jimmy Buffet and his Margaritaville, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, on October 14, 2011. The Margarita had a volume of 32,176 liters (8,500 gallons).
Nicora, having experience with Guinness’ rigorous validation requirements from his previous world record, assured that all of the appropriate testing and certifications, calibration of measuring equipment, and qualified witnesses were all in place, and enlisted the help of Joe Belli’s Westec Tank & Equipment Co. to create the massive 25-foot tall, nine feet in diameter, 6,500 pound margarita mixer.
The giant mixer was delivered on a flat bed big rig to Cal Expo, home of the California State Fair in Sacramento.
Nicora is the Co-Owner of Ovations Food Services, one of California’s largest food and beverage services, providing alcohol and concessions services to many California fairgrounds, stadiums, casinos, race tracks, and other venues, including Cal Expo.
Ricardo Hussong, grandson to the founder of Cantina Hussong’s in Ensinada, Mexico was pleased to partner with Nicora in honor of his family’s long history as the inventor of the most popular cocktail in the world. Buffet’s claim to the world record title was like salt to an open wound, according to the Healdsburg Press Democrat. Hussong is resolved to claim the Guinness title to honor his family’s name.
The 10,500 gallon record-breaking cocktail will be served at the World’s Largest Cocktail Shaker on Palm Avenue, across from Cantina Hussongs at Cal Expo in souvenir cups and shakers, with proceeds benefiting Friends of the California State Fair. The cantina host a Calarita Happy Hour from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm through the duration of the fair.
If successful, Nick Nicora will hold two world records for the World’s Largest Commercially Available Hamburger and the World’s Largest Margarita. During this week and continuing through the State Fair, fans and promoters are using hastag, #Calarita on Twitter to comment on the record and offer Nicora support.
