Simple Floors Portland Honors Local Vets with New Hardwood Floors

Simple Floors Portland, to highlight two local veterans, while installing new hardwood flooring in order to inspire additional vet support from Portland area community!

Simple Floors Portland has selected two local Portland metro area veterans to receive new hardwood flooring before the holidays. Today Simple Floors is announcing that they will be installing new hardwood floors for both a local veteran in Beaverton and another vet located across the river in Vancouver, Washington.
“Our entire team came up with the idea to honor and bless a single local veteran in our community this year. After reviewing several candidates and their circumstances, we decided to instead provide new flooring to two great Americans,” said Tom Michaud, CEO for Simple Floors Portland. “We feel that as a community we are not doing nearly enough to show those who have served just how much we appreciate what they’ve sacrificed and given.”
The two Portland area veterans that will be receiving new hardwood floors over the next few months were selected from referrals received through outreach from our personal connections of both active duty and retired service members. Through message boards, personal contacts and nominations that came through these channels, a list was accumulated and prioritized based on the information provided about each candidate. Interviews were then conducted with the candidates and two were ultimately selected, rather than just one.
One candidate is a disabled veteran who served 14 honorable years with the U.S. Army. She is a single mother of a seven year old son. The second candidate selected is a 29 year old who served 5 years in USAF, was medically retired as a Captain and unexpectedly lost his wife in July of this year.
“This initiative is intended to accomplish two real objectives. First, we wanted to put our gratitude into action through recognition, by replacing their flooring. Secondly, we hope to shed light on the many brave, hurting and some needy veterans in our area and challenge our community to also step-up and touch the lives of area vets either one-on-one or through the many local organizations that help them,” explained Tom Michaud, CEO for Simple Floors Portland.
