STC Showcases Personalized Public Health Ecosystem at National Public Health Informatics Conference
Industry: Healthcare

Consumers are now at the center of a new model for health improvement, personal empowerment and engagement. Scientific Technologies Corporation (STC) demonstrated its comprehensive personalized public health ecosystem this week at the National Public Health Informatics Conference Interoperability Showcase in Atlanta, Georgia. Using immunizations as an example, STC exhibited its comprehensive, interconnected information and decision-support system that puts consumers in control of how they receive health information, where they receive health services, and when they need to act to preserve and protect their health.
The first element of the ecosystem is centralized public information systems – known as registries – that aggregate and consolidate information on immunization and other health events. STC’s IWeb Immunization Information System (IIS), an interoperable highly-automated software suite, is currently in use by eleven states.
The second element is tools used by healthcare providers to electronically report to the centralized state registries the immunizations they give to patients. STC’s ImmsLink tool integrates with the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems used by physicians and enables them to see and store and share information on the patient’s entire lifetime immunization history – not just the immunizations given by that particular healthcare provider.
The third element is the inclusion of pharmacies around the nation as public health services providers and information disseminators. STC Pharmacy Integration Program works with most of the nation’s pharmacies to enable this information exchange. For example, STC has enabled Bartell Drugs, a Washington State pharmacy chain, to transmit and receive immunization information with the state’s registry and to promote consumer access to this information.
The fourth ecosystem element is STC’s MyIR™ consumer records access portal. MyIR, a web-based cloud and mobile device accessible system, enables a consumer to access official registry-based copies of their family’s immunization records, on-demand, anytime, at no cost. MyIR™ is the platform that together this new consumer ecosystem, personalizing public health information that has previously not been directly accessible. Consumers can establish an account on-line or through participating healthcare providers (such as Bartell Drugs in Washington State and other public and private providers in several states).
The final element is increasing consumer engagement and advocacy around making public health personal. STC’s Immunization Ambassadors Program (https://immunizationambassadors.com/) is an on-line social media tool and campaign, focusing on increasing awareness, advocacy and promotion of the ways immunization improves health and how consumers can help advance their immunization literacy and improve their access to personalized immunization relevant to their family and their community.
“This new model turns preventive healthcare upside down,” says Michael Popovich, STC CEO. “In the past, health improvement was focused on improving the way medical care was practiced and delivered. With STC’s new ecosystem, consumers are now the centerpiece – they are now surrounded by a designed system of easy to use digital tools, newly accessible healthcare delivery sources, and expanding communities of consumers who can for the first time personalize public health data in order to improve their health and the health of their families.”
