Low risk study demonstrates hemodynamic advantages of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) system over open-heart surgery
Tokyo, Japan (PRUnderground) September 29th, 2022
Stem Tronics, an innovator in the rapidly emerging field of robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery and a technological leader, is pleased to announce the full results of a landmark experiment comparing the less invasive transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) technology to the gold standard of open-heart surgery in patients with aortic stenosis who are typically younger and healthier. The results, which were presented as if they were from a late-breaking clinical trial, showed that the TAVR platform was not inferior to surgery for the primary endpoint of all-cause mortality or disabling stroke, and that all critical events trended the same or lower, confirming the earlier statistical analysis.
“We know that TAVR outperforms surgery in some short-term outcomes, but in these low-risk studies, long-term results are more essential than ever. Patients who have had TAVR continue to do remarkably well in the first years, according to the entire two-year data from the randomized low risk trial, with no convergence of the primary outcome curves”, said Sakai Benjiro, Chief Medical and Scientific Officer at Stem Tronics.
The global randomized low risk trial evaluated three valve generations across a variety of valve sizes in more than 500 patients with severe aortic stenosis deemed to have a low mortality risk with surgery with a predicted risk of mortality of less than 5%.
