New York, NY (PRUnderground) January 26th, 2020

Today at The New York Times Travel Show (NYTTS), the Taiwan Tourism Bureau (TTB) in collaboration with China Airlines and EVA Air, unveiled its theme for 2020, Year of Mountain Tourism, which highlights five of Taiwan’s mountain ranges and 24 mountain-related package tours. Taiwan’s beautiful mountain scenery includes an incredibly diverse ecological environment and multicultural characteristics, which are uniquely attractive for international travelers.

The New York Times Travel Show is one of the biggest travel exhibitions in North America. As part of Taiwan’s ongoing international promotion of Taiwan as a tourist destination, Taiwan Tourism Bureau’s New York office used imagery of Hehuan Mountain’s exquisite floral bloom to present the beauty of Taiwan’s mountain scenery. Taichung is one of the cities most tourists pass through before entering Taiwan’s central mountain range. Taichung is also the 2020 site of Taiwan’s annual Lantern Festival. One of the key sites you can visit in Taichung is the Rainbow Village, which is also highlighted by TTB’s booth design.

Taiwan Tourism Bureau’s feature-rich booth includes expert travel consultation and aboriginal dance performances. TTB’s mascot OhBear is also onsite building buzz with the general public. A mini-workshop will introduce Taiwan travel information to attendees, while visitors to TTB’s booth also have multiple chances to win great prizes, with a poke-and-play game providing every player with Taiwanese gifts and a lucky draw, that includes grand prizes of round-trip tickets to Taiwan provided by China Airlines and EVA Air.

Ambassador Lily L.W. Hsu of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in New York said “The relationship between Taiwan and America has improved in recent times, including the introduction of mutual visa-waiver systems. This has lead to increasing tourism in both directions. Taiwan has also received a lot of international recognition from media: InterNations’ Expat City Ranking 2019 identified Taipei as the number 1 city for expats to live in; Travel + Leisure also listed Taiwan as one of its Best Places to Travel to in 2020.” Deputy Director Andrew G.B. Yang of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in New York added “Taiwanese are very friendly and passionate. Apart from its beautiful natural scenery, Taiwan is also full of multi-cultural attractions. It’s one of the best destinations in Asia.”

Claire Wen, Director of Taiwan Tourism Bureau’s New York office said “Taiwan has a unique natural environment, with 268 mountains that exceed 3,000m (~9,800ft) in height. With vast changes in altitude within short distances, Taiwan makes it easy to witness different flora and fauna, making it an island of natural wonder. Taiwan’s mountains are highly accessible by public transport and hiking routes are well planned, with each route offering opportunities to experience different local cultures and cuisine. We welcome all international tourists to come and enjoy the beauty of Taiwan.”

The New York Times Travel Show ends on January 26, which also happens to be the Lunar New Year. The 2020 Taiwan Lantern Festival takes place on February, 8-23 in Taichung. Our booth will provide DIY lantern making and paper-cutting activities. We welcome everyone to come and take part in everything TTB has to offer.
