Irvine, CA (PRUnderground) March 15th, 2021

Tammy Hyland has won the 2021 ThreeBestRated® award for one of the top-rated Marriage Counselors in Irvine. And Tammy is honored to receive the award for the fifth year in a row, “I feel privileged and honored to have been chosen as one of the ThreeBestRated® Therapists in Irvine,” she says.

“I know that the ThreeBestRated® carefully selects their candidates by using a 50-point inspection that includes everything from reviews, business reputation, cost, satisfaction, to the general excellence. I also know that there are a lot of very qualified therapists in Irvine, so to be chosen as one of the top three came as a great surprise and a great delight,” she further adds.

When we meet someone as successful as Tammy, we would naturally want to hear their story, right? And so we asked her to share her story.

Living the “perfect life”:

Tammy graduated from Arizona State University in 1987 and entered the corporate world, handling litigated liability claims for The May Department Stores Company. “During this time, I learned a lot about the corporate environment and corporate psychology,” she says.

When her second child came along, Tammy put her career on hold to devote her time and energy to her children. And she enjoyed every bit of it. “Being a stay-at-home mom of three young children was challenging but so rewarding. I loved every moment of being their mom and felt very fortunate that I could be there for them 100% of the time,” she says.

The funny thing about life is, we will never know what is going to happen next. And that is what happened in her life. “In 2006, my life took a painful and unexpected turn, and I suddenly found myself a divorced single mother of three,” she says.

She was 42 at that time and had been out of the workforce for about ten years. “I worried about so many things…moving, finances, and mostly how all of this was going to affect my children. I also found myself searching for a deeper meaning and purpose for my life,” she explains.

Finding her calling:

Tammy’s searching helped her to find her true calling, helping and guiding people. “People had always told me that I had a gift of connecting with others,” she says. “It is true that I enjoy getting to know others, and I naturally have an interest in their stories. I believe that every person has incredible worth as a human being, regardless of their life circumstances. When meeting someone new, I innately lean-in with genuine interest, empathy, and a yearning to understand. When someone feels that, they begin to share,” she further explains.

Tammy believes that her experiences in early childhood sent her on a quest for a deeper understanding of human behavior. “My parents went through a bitter divorce when I was 12, and I had to move between two very different households and adjust to a new blended family. I also witnessed first-hand family members who struggled with anger, depression, and addiction,” she explains.

Hyland and Associates Counseling Services:

Tammy got her Masters degree in Psychology from Chapman University, where she gained the necessary educational experience to become a Marriage and Family Therapist. “I graduated in 2012 and started counseling others in private practice soon after. I also remarried during this time to a wonderful man who showed me incredible love and support along the way,” she says happily.

After practicing solo for six years, Tammy founded Hyland and Associates Counseling Services in 2018. Tammy leads the practice with three pre-licensed associate therapists who all have their Masters in Counseling Psychology. “At Hyland and Associates, our therapists work with individuals for a wide range of emotional and behavioral issues. In therapy, you may learn to attain a better understanding of yourself, your goals, and your values. You may develop skills to improve your relationships, learn new ways to cope with stress and anxiety, manage anger, grief, depression or other emotional pressures,” she explains.

They also specialize in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT), a highly successful evidence-based treatment approach to healing relationships. “Research reveals that when using EFT, 70-75% of couples move from distress to recovery, and 90% show significant improvements. These results are also less susceptible to relapse than those from other approaches,” Tammy explains.
