Thanksgiving Donation Gives Slaughter-Bound Racehorse “Voiage” a Second Chance

A donation from the law firm of Console and Associates saved a former racehorse from certain death when a local equine rescue was desperately low on funds.
After Voiage’s breeder passed away, the horse was sold to a kill pen in Pennsylvania. It looked like the racehorse’s life would end at a slaughterhouse. Although his predicament caught the attention of the Forgotten Angels Equine Rescue in Medford, NJ, the nonprofit organization didn’t have the funding to help, having just recently depleted its funds saving several other horses. A foster home was offered, but money was needed to “bail” the horse out of the kill pen.
Voiage narrowly avoided slaughter when Maria Dedes, whose daughter Trina Dedes volunteers at Forgotten Angels, set up a GoFundMe fundraiser in an attempt to save this innocent creature.
The fundraiser came to the attention of Console and Associates founder Richard P. Console Jr., who knew that he couldn’t allow this tragedy to happen.
“In the spirit of Thanksgiving, our firm wanted to do something that would show our gratitude by helping this wonderful organization,” said Console. “What better way than by saving the life of this majestic animal that would otherwise be slaughtered Thanksgiving week?”
Forgotten Angels is still accepting tax-deductible donations toward the rescue and care of Voiage and other horses in situations like his – of which there are many.
