New York, NY (PRUnderground) August 27th, 2020

The award-winning People’s Improv Theater (The PIT) became digital after having to temporarily close its NYC spaces due to COVID-19. Since then, The PIT’s online classes have become a flourishing program, providing students from all over the world access to affordable comedic training. Now, parents looking for a fun way to keep their kids safe and entertained can join in on the fun! The PIT is proud to offer two brand new comedic sketch writing classes: Sketch Comedy for Pre-Teens (5th – 8th grade), and Sketch Comedy for Teens (9th – 12th grade).

Taught by experienced writer, director, and PIT instructor/artistic team member Matt Prigge, young students from all over the world discover the joy of creating original funny characters and situations. Through a mixture of improv games and writing exercises, and by performing for one other, students will learn the basic tools that they need to bring their original, hilarious ideas to life. The classes are for students of all experience levels, and are focused on having fun and supporting each other’s ideas, culminating in a presentation of original comedy sketches, written and performed by the students themselves!

The Fall 2020 classes are just $199 for 12 one and a half hour sessions over 12 weeks. Sessions begin late September, and run from 4pm – 5:30pm EST (after-school hours).

Scholarships: There are 4 Access Scholarship seats reserved in each class, as well as a number of 1/2 Off Scholarships available. The PIT wishes to reaffirm and expand their commitment to making their spaces (online or in person) a place where all people, regardless of race, color, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender expression, national origin, disability, veteran or military status, can express themselves and gather to experience the joy of comedy. Therefore, The PIT’s ‘Access Scholarship’ is designed for students from diverse backgrounds to have access to classes at no cost. Scholarships are based on class availability.

In this time of social distance, it is a constant struggle to feel connected and seen. The PIT strives to be a place where all people can create community, and connect to one another through joy & comedy, no matter the distance.
