As of 2017, Google search engine reports an estimated 2,700 people per day in the US search for Yurts online. This number does not include all the other variations of search terms use to find alternative living structures.

In the simplest terms, a yurt is a round tent used as a dwelling by nomads in the steppes of Central Asia. These tents were often made of wood and covered in skins or felt.

The round shape and simplistic design of yurts allow them to be put up and taken down with relative ease while still being a strong structure capable of withstanding high winds and strong storms.
