When Don Tingey opened his personal injury law firm in Las Vegas in 1969, he had exactly one person on his payroll — a secretary. Today, the firm is one of the oldest and most respected in the city with a staff of 42. And while their current building on the corner of Charleston across the street from UMC hospital has been a familiar fixture for eight years, the firm will soon expand into a larger building with a storied past in Las Vegas’ Arts District.

Firm attorney Bruce Tingey said that the move will not only open up more space for the firm’s seven lawyers and their staff, but also pay homage to the city’s past. “The building was a car shop in 1949, and we’re proud to preserve its look and feel and the piece of Las Vegas history that it represents,” said Tingey.

Vestiges of the car shop can still be seen in the building, including the original engine block crane and several original auto repair signs.

The building, which is located at 817 S. Main Street, once stood in a neglected section of downtown known as South District and shared the block with vagrants and a meth lab. Back in 2006, $2 million were poured into the building, transforming it into a trendy business space for a host of innovative, eco-friendly entrepreneurs.

The building itself is environmentally-friendly with its air system that pumps air from below, driving its electricity and gas usage to nominal amounts.

Tingey expressed excitement about how the restored building will complement the firm’s mission. “This building will give our accident injury attorneys the space that they need to continue protecting Las Vegas accident victims, and the fact that it also protects the environment seems pretty fitting,” said Tingey.
