Singapore’s latest live-action superhero takes aim at the global market with a contemporary narrative that incorporates the history and mythology of maritime Southeast Asia

Singapore (PRUnderground) January 17th, 2020

tokuAsia Pte. Ltd premiered online today a concept trailer for Sacred Guardian Singa, its flagship live-action superhero character that it plans to develop into a series by end-2020. This is the trailer’s first worldwide release, having been screened twice to overwhelming receptions at the Singapore Visitor Centre (Katong & Joo Chiat) launch event in November 2019, and at Singapore Comic Con in December 2019.

Sacred Guardian Singa is the story of a young man intent on forging his own path, who must come to terms with a power he is destined to inherit from a past life, in order to defend the future of humanity against an evil cult that seeks to free their leader from his centuries-long imprisonment within the fabled Crown of Nila Utama. Inspired by popular long-running Tokusatsu (SFX)programs such as Kamen RiderSacred Guardian Singa firmly embraces its Singaporean & Southeast Asian origin by incorporating the region’s shared history & mythology into its lore, all while telling a contemporary superhero story that deals with identity, purpose and destiny.

Singaporean actor/stuntman Kasimir Poh Cieslak plays Ryan Leong (Best Actor in a Dramedy, Asia Web Awards 2019), who assumes the mantle of Singa. He is joined by actors Dorothy Leong (Ex-Losers 3, MediaCorp Channel 5), Sherly Devonne Ng (Love Shop, Viddsee Studios; Tanglin, MediaCorp Channel 5) and Kris Mavericko, rounding up the lead cast.

“We are thrilled to finally be able to present the concept trailer for Sacred Guardian Singa to the entire world. It was always our vision to develop a superhero story that resonates with who we are and our place in this world, yet contains enough universal themes that will appeal to someone living on the other side of the globe,” said Basil YeoCEO of tokuAsia Pte. Ltd.

“The concept trailer gives our audience an idea of the flavour of the Sacred Guardians brand, and the quality that they can expect as we continue to develop the pilot episode, with a view of making a full series by year end. With the incredible level of talent we have on-board the project, and the amazing support that we have received from our partners and the community, we are very confident that we can take the brand to the next level,” said Aydeel DjoeharieCOO of tokuAsia Pte. Ltd.

A passion project 14 years in the making, Sacred Guardian Singa has evolved from a fan-film idea into an emerging character entertainment brand with vast opportunities in the Southeast Asian and global markets, as a result of key strategic partnerships established over the past two years.

One of these partnerships is with Kim Choo Kueh Chang, a Peranakan heritage business that manages the Singapore Visitor Centre (Katong & Joo Chiat). As part of the partnership, various locations in Katong & Joo Chiat district were selected as key production locations for Sacred Guardian Singa.

“The partnership with the Singapore Visitor Centre (Katong & Joo Chiat) showcases a side of Singapore that is not often featured on the global media. In doing so, we established an authentic and distinctive setting for our story. At the same time, we hope that association with our brand will create value and awareness for the district & its businesses by leveraging on the growing interest in pop culture tourism around the world,” said Gan Meng YeowHead of Brands of tokuAsia Pte. Ltd.

Sacred Guardian Singa is a superhero that is supported by the real history, culture and heritage of Southeast Asia. Going beyond the commercial possibilities that a superhero brand offers, we strongly believe in Singa as an iconic character that can inspire future generations around the world to pursue their dreams. We are very excited for our next plans, and we look forward to the continued support of the global community and our partners,” said Cizar Abughazaleh, Board Advisor of tokuAsia Pte. Ltd.

The trailer will be available with English, Bahasa Malay, Mandarin (Simplified) and Japanese closed-captioning options.
