The importance of educations in today’s ever-competitive world cannot be overstated.  Unfortunately, getting a degree or graduating from a trade school can be extremely expensive. Not shy about helping in this area is one of the nation’s top financial experts Patrick Dwyer, former Merrill Lynch Wealth Advisor, and now the Head of Strategic Development at Boston Private.  Dwyer recently announced the launch of the 2020 Patrick Dwyer College Scholarship, where students will have the chance to enter an essay contest, where they explain a personal hardship or catastrophic life event that they have experienced and answer the questions, “How did they manage to overcome the obstacle? What did they learn and how did they grow from it?”. Through no fault of their own, there are many children whose life experiences place their educational opportunities in jeopardy. Unfortunate examples are children who have had a parent incarcerated through personal crimes, property crimes, inchoate crimes, statutory crimes, and financial & fraud crimes, an event that can produce many negative consequences for the children including poverty.

“I never forget where I came from or lose the desire to help others achieve their dreams,” remarked the in-demand financial advisor and strategic development expert.  “Starting the college scholarship was one of the best things I’ve ever done and seeing it help students is truly energizing.”

The award grants one high school student accepted into a University or trade school or current University student a $1000 scholarship towards their education.  Details about the rules and when to apply can be found on the official website.

Beyond his work with student’s Boston Private’s Dwyer has helped schools serving young people with dyslexia and other learning disabilities; donated towards sustainability and environmental efforts; and devoted himself to programs helping young women meet their educational potential.

Philanthropy aside, Dwyer has helped clients manage nearly $4 billion in assets.

While his move caused a year gap in the scholarship program all plans are for 2020 to be the start of it becoming a yearly award.
