Upswing EdTech Startup Named 2019 Austin Inno 50 on Fire Blaze Winner

Upswing was chosen as the top EdTech startup by Austin Inno 50 and named a 2019 Blaze Winner at the annual 50 On Fire event, hosted by Capital Factory.

Each year Austin Inno celebrates the 50 most innovative new companies that are helping to reshape the market in central Texas.

Beginning with community nominations, then web research and funding filings with the SEC, Austin Inno selects one company from each category as its winner.

This year Austin Inno honors Upswing for its outstanding work in EdTech.

“We’re proud to call Austin our home and thrilled to be chosen as this year’s EdTech winner from among so many incredible companies working to help students succeed during their education journey,” says Melvin Hines, co-founder and CEO of Upswing.

But he points out that Upswing shares this award with the hundreds of dedicated tutors and advisors working with them to help students make the most of their college services, and school administrators dedicated to helping students succeed by approaching education in new ways.

Hines says Upswing is focusing on attaining its 2020 vision of making college degrees a reality for 50,000 students to improve student success through increased college support and accessibility for students of all types, with a focus on serving non-traditional and diverse populations.

“We’ve focused the last five years on learning why students don’t graduate and what can be done to improve retention. “We’re motivated every day on reducing the equality gap among college students, and the Austin Inno award is proof that our work is making an important impact.”
