How to Find a China Manufacturer and Supplier?(Source: STC Electronic Co., Limited)

Industry: Consumer Electronics

Chinese suppliers are business partners, and partners can be your greatest asset or your worst nightmare. Will you take on just anyone as your business partner? The same care you would take in choosing your business partner is the same care you should take when choosing a supplier to guarantee a productive and efficient relationship as your business grows.

If you’re looking for a Chinese manufacturer or supplier about the data and power connection cable, here are a few places to start your search for establishing your manufacturing process.

Chinese suppliers are business partners, and partners can be your greatest asset or your worst nightmare. Will you take on just anyone as your business partner? The same care you would take in choosing your business partner is the same care you should take when choosing a supplier to guarantee a productive and efficient relationship as your business grows.

Take some time and focus on your research for a reliable supplier: it’s worth it.

Seven ways to verify Chinese suppliers are factories, not trading companies.

Many importers are keen to know that they are dealing with factories or trading companies when importing certain products from China. Because almost every Chinese supplier claims that they are factories, including Alibaba’s suppliers, even though they are actually trading companies. So there are a lot of blogs and articles that teach importers how to validate your vendors on the Internet, but most of the solutions they suggest don’t make sense in reality.

1. Check the business license

When examining a supplier’s business license, the most important part is the “business scope”. This is the easiest and most direct way that suppliers can’t fake. The scope of business of the factory must include the words “manufacturing or production”, which is not available in the business scope of the trading company.

Send the supplier’s business license to a reliable friend who knows Chinese, or you can find a freelancer to translate and spend only a few dollars.

2. Check the product catalog

Factories usually produce one or several products, and if there are many products in the supplier catalog, it is more likely to be a trading company.

I know a stainless steel vacuum cup factory (200 workers, about 70 kilometers from my office) and is one of the top ten celebrities in the vacuum cup industry in China. In addition to vacuum cups, they also sell glass, but these cups are supplied by other small factories. The glass price of this company is even higher than that of other trading companies.

But if your cup supplier offers stainless steel vacuum, glass, plastic cups and mugs, etc., they are not factories.

3. Check the factory audit report

If the supplier tells you that they have provided products for a world company like Wal-Mart, you can ask them to send you a factory audit report.

If they refuse or hesitate, then they may be trading companies. If they send you a factory audit report, you will need to check the company name on the report. If it has the same name as the business license, they must be factories.

4. Check ISO 9001 certification

Not every factory is ISO 9001 certified, but most companies with this certification are factories because trading companies are not necessary.

However, there are still some trading companies that have obtained this certification, and all of these companies focus on only one product category and have a strong relationship with their factories. I know several types of trading companies, and I have to say that there is not much difference between working with them and working with factories, even at prices.

5. Check the supplier’s position in China

All products have their own industrial areas in China, let us take the USB C data line as an example.
The two cities of Shenzhen and Dongguan have a complete supply chain for all components of the USB data cable, such as plastics, connectors and copper. The factory only needs to design the outer casing and packaging of the wire and then assemble all the components together. Producing data lines in any other city will be more complex and costly than Shenzhen, so the factory is unlikely to be located elsewhere.

If your supplier is not in Shenzhen or Dongguan, they may be trading companies.
