CompareMySolar is a brand new internet startup that helps consumers compare solar panels and installers. The company offers a unique online tool that allows you to select your own roof on the map, explore the solar potential of your own roof, compare solar panel prices and the experience of local solar installers, and invite up to three installers to help you go solar.

Completely self-funded, CompareMySolar Ltd. was founded in July 2010 by industrial designer Stefan Ruiter (Amsterdam) and strategy consultant Gertjan van der Goot (London). Launched in December 2010, the website is available in the UK (www.comparemysolar.co.uk), the Netherlands (www.comparemysolar.nl) and Belgium (www.comparemysolar.be). CompareMySolar is the only web based tool that provides consumers an overview of local solar panel prices for their own roof. Every consumer receives free personal phone advice before being connected with their chosen installers. CompareMySolar shows installer experience, customer rating, warranty, accreditations and brands used. The service is free for consumers, while installers pay a fee for each completed installation. Currently the company collaborates with over 35 installers, and this number is growing fast.

When there is snow on your roof you might not think about it, but now is a good time to inform yourself about solar panels for your home via www.comparemysolar.co.uk/learn-about-solar/solar-education The solar panel market in the UK is booming in 2010. The number of MCS accredited solar panel installers has grown tenfold in just eighteen months – from about 100 to over 1000 installers. The government subsidy scheme in the UK (called Feed-in-tariffs) is one of the most attractive of Europe, while other countries are quickly cutting back on their subsidies. Solar panels in the UK can provide a return of investment of 10%, which is much higher than the interest received on saving accounts or ISA’s.

Going solar is a difficult decision. The choice is difficult because it involves an unknown product, requires a significant amount of investment, and has an impact on the way your house looks. At the same time there are hundreds of solar panel manufacturers to choose from, and panels can be installed by over 1000 solar installers across the UK, which are searchable at www.comparemysolar.co.uk/learn-about-solar/find-a-local-installer Getting the best price is critical for your financial return, but the quality of the installation, the warranty provided and the experience of the installer are equally important.

According to CompareMySolar director Gertjan van der Goot: “Consumers need complete and relevant advice for their own roof when they think about solar panels. They currently spend many hours learning about solar panels, the optimal roof and government incentives in the UK. And they often struggle with comparing offers, which makes it a very complex financial decision. No need for any of this anymore, because CompareMySolar makes solar energy easy and accessible.”
