Industry: Entertainment & Games

The Immersive Concert-Experience of String Quartets by Dmitry Shostakovich Will Take Place This Weekend at NYC’s Iconic Blue Building, Commencing at 7:30 PM

New York, NY (PRUnderground) February 15th, 2022

Music has been a part of society from the beginning of time and held the power to define entire generations by enticing a range of emotions that reflect the tone and attitude of the people in its time. Classical music has long been respected as the benchmark for musical artistry as we continue to celebrate groundbreaking composers who devoted their life work to the craft. However, the gap between the brilliance of classical music and the younger generation continues to widen amid the digital age. So&So (Symphony Orchestra & Select Others), the independent symphonic society founded by young people is on a mission to bridge that gap by breathing new life into old symphonies.

So&So is proud to present Behind Closed Doors: Soviet Chamber Music, an immersive concert experience of string quartets no. 4 & 8 by Dmitry Shostakovich. The musical extravaganza will take place at New York’s iconic Blue Building at 222 E 46th Street, New York, NY 10017, and commence at 7:30 PM on Saturday, February 19th, and Sunday, February 20th.

This one-of-a-kind concert features two string quartets of Juilliard graduate musicians who will perform the mastery of Dmitry Shostakovich, in collaboration with NYC life veteran light designer Pat “Caramel” Regne. Shostakovich is widely renowned as one of the most prolific composers of the 20th century who became recognized for his unparalleled symphonies, numerous chamber works, and concerti; many of which were written under the pressures of government-imposed standards of Soviet art.

“The casual intimacy of chamber music provided a creative outlet for Soviet composers compared to the symphonies they produced at the behest of the Communist Party. String quartets, in particular, were easy to arrange for and lent themselves to private performances for trusted friends behind closed doors. The resulting music was therefore free to provide a much-needed experience of vulnerability and decadence. We will be presenting two intimate pieces by prolific Soviet composer Dmitry Shostakovich, in a transporting context with modern lighting design.”

Through proof of concept, dedication to the craft, and unwavering commitment to preserving the brilliance of Dmitry Shostakovich, So&So’s purpose-driven vision will come to fruition as Behind Closed Doors: Soviet Chamber Music takes the stage on Saturday, February 19th.
