Veterinarian And Author A.C. Washington Announces Release Of Her First Children’s Picture Book, Dr. Jett, Monster Vet, In Time For World Veterinary Day

Veterinarian and author A.C. Washington is announcing the release of her first children’s picture book, Dr. Jett, Monster Vet, in time for World Veterinary Day Saturday, April 24. The book is available at https://www.scruffypuppress.com and Amazon.
Dr. Jett, Monster Vet, is a fun and inspirational rhyming children’s picture book that introduces the world of veterinary medicine in an entertaining way, encourages interest in a STEM career, and celebrates diversity in the STEM fields.
Washington says this fully-illustrated book explores a whimsical take on veterinary medicine and features a hero kids can relate to. “The main character is a caring Black female veterinarian who meets friendly monsters,” she says, “and I feature her because it’s important for girls and children of color to be exposed to STEM careers through a character who looks like them, so they know what’s possible.”
Washington adds that Dr. Jett, Monster Vet is a great way to celebrate World Veterinary Day on April 24, as teachers and families explore ways to encourage little ones to think about the positive aspects of being a veterinarian or pursuing other STEM-related careers.
“Science and math are universal, and both are important for progress in the world,” Washington says, “so I want to emphasize not just STEM careers, but also diversity in these career paths.”
Dr. Jett, Monster Vet recently garnered a five-star review saying, “I loved this cute story. I loved the representation of a woman of color in a professional field, and the doctor’s kindness and helpfulness to the unknown creature. This is a great read!”
Washington is a great enthusiast of the arts, with a penchant for coloring. She recently published two coloring books: Black Mermaid: All Ages Coloring Book, and Black Fairies: All Ages Coloring Book. The coloring books feature diverse characters with natural hair and varying backgrounds, exemplifying diversity.
